Seafood Processing Standard

The Seafood Processing Standard is the only third party seafood specific processing plant standard to be compliant with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP).

Enhanced Social Accountability (SA)

What it is

This audit offers a more in-depth review of social accountability and environmental health and safety clauses in our standard. This audit is available to all producers as a voluntary enhancement for marketplace endorsers, suppliers, or producers seeking to differentiate their supply chain with added assurances.

Why We Do It

The purpose of this audit is to help leading producers get recognition for going above and beyond the usual requirements in the social space. The producers exemplify exceptional practices in ensuring the safety and well being of their workforce.

How It Works

The audit contains the addition of a specially trained social accountability auditor to accompany the lead auditor.

 

How to Apply

GSA has a dedicated team of certification specialist available to help guide facilities through the certification process.

Step One - Prepare
  • Familiarize yourself with our standard by reviewing the Seafood Processing Standard here.
  • Create a user account and profile in this PORTal system
    • Access the online application and self assessment form.
    • These resources ready yourself for audit.
  • If you need assistance to get ready for certification and you are appying as an individual facility, contact GSA about our trainer
Step Two - Application

Complete

  • Fill out electronic application and agreement.
  • Complete short self-assessment questionaire.

Pay Application and Audit Fee

  • GSA sends invoice.
  • Send Payment.

Step Three - Audit Arranged

  • Certification body assigned.
  • Certification body contacts facility to schedule audit.
  • Auditor assigned to facility, and audit dates confirmed

Step Four - Audit, Adjustments & Close Out

Process takes approximately 60 days.

  • On-ground audit complete.
  • Non-comformities presented to facility.
  • If required, facility submits corrective actions to auditor to address non-conformities.
  • Auditor reviews and closes out non-conformities.
  • Audit undergoes technical review by the certification body.
  • Certification body makes determination of compliance or non-compliance to SPS standard.
  • Certification body issues certificate to SPS.

Approval

  • GSA receives notice of final approval from certification body.

Program Fee Payment

  • GSA sends invoice.
  • Facility pays invoice.
  • Once paid, GSA releases CB certification certificate to facility with validation letter.
